London Academicals 5

Barnes Vets 0

The London Academicals Ladies continue to sit pretty at the top of their league, and Saturday 21st February saw them further strengthn their grip on the title.

Match report written by our very own Irish lifestyle blogger, Kelly Corbett

The game began with a slow and rhythmic start as the Accies controlled proceedings, coping well with Barnes’ direct approach. Controlled, steady and dominated by De Pedro’s penchant for the Sicilian defense it passed by with relatively few incidents. Shut out. New addition Alex introduced herself to the league with some robust tackles and polite apologies, marking out the central territory as her own. Enforcer.  Trafford, aka the Right Wing Rottweiler, continued her tireless efforts down the right wing, pressing, harrying and creating counter attacking opportunities for her forward colleagues. From battling defence to delivering deep, penetrating passes, she was at the centre of the action.

As the second half progressed, Bela and Leafy were carrying out their own form of inquisition in the Barnes midfield. Constant pressure created space for the forward unit who started to build the lead. Both Kelly and Eva started the count going up two a piece (sic). A short corner, a few close range shots and a beautiful shot that nestled itself in the top left hand corner of the goal. Banksie, not one to be outdone, continued her fine form and finished off the tie with a tidy goal to make the final score 5-0. Emphatic.

The Accies Ladies continue to grace the top of the league with consistent top form, team commitment and sheer determination with no sign of slowing down. Long let it continue!

Surrey Ladies Hockey League Div 4

With only four games to go, it's crucial that the ladies keep up their winning streak to secure a promotion. Keep an eye on the social channels this Thursday 5th March, when the ladies will be playing Barnes second in the league. Decider.
